This study aimed to examine in detail the developmental context and cultural core of Yan culture through Hebei’s history, culture, and literary texts. Part of the goal of the Jing-Jin-Ji Cooperative Development Strategy is to restore Hebei’s pride, which has lagged behind Beijing and Tianjin, and this is for the mutual and cooperative development of the Jing-Jin-Ji region. This paper conducted research with a focus on Hebei’s soft-textured culture. The cultural identity of the soft-lying region is presented as “impassioned generosity and tragic song(慷慨悲 歌)” and “valor and chivalry(勇武任侠).” “impassioned generosity and tragic song” and “valor and chivalry”serve as powerful reservoirs in two categories of Hebei local literature: the literature of the “Hongqipu writers” and that of the “Hehuadian” school. Hongqipu’s revolutionary historical novels transform Hebei’s cultural identity into the spirit of Hongqipu. This is the product of miaotang-ness(庙堂性), that is, strong political influence. By contrast, novels set along the northern section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in eastern Hebei portrays Hebei as a jianghu(江湖) a realm where chivalrous heroes roam and operate freely. This article aimed to overcome Hebei’s problem of lacking a driving force for cultural development by remembering and highlighting the historical, geographical, political, and economic importance of the Yan and Chao regions.

이 연구는 허베이의 역사･문화와 문학텍스트를 통해 연조문화의 발전맥락과 문화 핵심을 구체적으로 살펴보고자 했다. 징진지협동발전전략의 일부 목표는 베이징이나 톈진에 비해 낙후된 허베이의 자긍심 회복이고 이것은 징진지의 상호협동발전을 위 한 것이다. 이 글에서는 허베이의 연조문화에 중점을 두고 연구를 진행했다. 연조지 방의 문화적 정체성은 ‘강개비가(慷慨悲歌), 용무임협(勇武任侠)’으로 제시된다. 강개 비가, 용무임협은, 허베이 향토문학의 두 부류, 즉 ‘홍기보 작가군’의 문학과 ‘하화정’ 유파의 문학 모두에서 강력한 저류로 작용하고 있다. 홍기보 작가군의 혁명역사소설 은 허베이의 문화적 정체성을 홍기보 정신으로 전환한다. 이는 묘당성 즉 강한 정치적 영향력의 산물이다. 반면 경동북운하 소설은 허베이를 협객이 자유롭게 활약하는 강호(江湖)로 묘사한다. 이 글은 문화 발전 동력이 부족한 허베이의 문제를 극복하기 위해 연조지방의 역사지리적･정치적･경제적 중요성을 기억해내고 부각하고자 했다.
