In this paper, I found problems in the theme analysis of ‘Carp turns into dragon’-type(魚變成龍型) ‘Chung’ word picture(忠字圖) from the existing view and tried to solve it. I read the existing ‘Carp turns into dragon’-type ‘Chung’ word picture interpretation as a symbolic sign type(象徵符號類型) while grouping all types of ‘Chung’ word picture into decoration type, ‘story picture’ type and sign type. I tried to read it as a narrative sign type(敍事符號類型) by looking at unfamiliar points. Even in the process of reading as a narrative sign type, with the help of the symbolic sign type, the main shapes of the iconography, the dragon and the fish, are the relationship between the monarch and he loyal retainers, and the shellfish and the shrimp are also the loyal retainers. As a result, from various aspects such as the narrative sign of the iconography, the combination of the upper and lower structures, and the integration of the iconography and the subject, ‘Carp turns into dragon’-type ‘Chung’ word picture was described with a narrative sign that Ji Xin(紀信) disguised as Han wang(漢王) Liu Bang(劉邦) to save Liu Bang during the battle between Chu and Han(楚漢戰), and he died instead for Liu Bang and Xingyang city's loyal retainers also used their strength and heart to helping Liu Bang’s founding country.

본 논문은 ‘어변성룡’형 충자도의 주제 해석에 있어 기존의 견해에 문제점을 발견 하고 이를 해결하기 위해 작성하였다. 현존하는 충자도의 유형을 장식 유형, ‘이야기 그림’ 유형, 기호 유형으로 정리하면서 기존의 어변성룡형 충자도 해석이 상징적 기 호 유형으로 읽었기에 순통하지 않았다고 보고 서사적 기호 유형으로 읽으려 시도하 였다. 그 결과 도상의 형상과 서사 내용의 대응, 상하 구성의 결합, 도상과 화제의 통합성 등 여러 측면에서 볼 때, 어변성룡형 충자도는 초한전 때 충신 기신이 한왕 유방을 구하기 위해 한왕으로 변장하여 대신 죽고, 형양성의 충신들도 힘과 마음을 합하여 유방의 홍업을 도운 사건을 서사적 기호로 표현하였다고 보았다.
